in newtown, connecticut. a town in mourning to say the least. the images that we have seen throughout this town are heartbreaking. makeshift memorials on several street corners. everything from teddy bears to candles to flowers and angels' wings. it is a beautiful community here. just so quiet and pristine and you call it because what you can hear about newtown, connecticut, and it is so filled with grief. it is only the beginning, though, as this town prepares to bury those who were killed on friday. there will be so many burials. the first of the funerals begins today at 1:00 p.m. these would beautiful children, jack pinto, noah pozner. it is going to be a tragic several weeks. no one knew that more than president obama who came here to speak to this town at a touching memorial last night. >> surely we do better than this. if there is even one step we can take to save another child or another parent or another town from the grief that'ses have e visited tucson, aurora, oak creek and newtown, communities from columbine to blacksburg before that, surely we have an obligation to try.

in politics, where emotion will pull the logic train. the emotion of what happened in newtown, connecticut, the emotion contained in a week of funerals, we're at the front of a church or synagogue or a mosque, you're going to be very small -- there are going to be very small caskets. t.j., if we still have the picture of jack pinto buried yesterday in newtown, connecticut, buried in his little league uniform, that right there is what is going to change the dialogue for this. people carry around for years pictures of their children in little league uniforms, hockey uniforms, first and second grade school picture. that's the picture, the emotion that will pull this thing. >> if it doesn't, there's a serious problem. i understand the president does -- has a lot to do, when it comes to making sure that our economy doesn't fall off the cliff. there are tens of millions of working americans that know that the fiscal cliff situation needs to be addressed. isn't human nature funny, though, how we need to get moving on this? >> those critical issues you just mentioned, they seem so insignificant. >

's a terrifying situation, obviously for all parents, not even just in newtown and we will see you posted and new information as soon as we get it into our newsroom. bill: a little bit here from the "associated press." according to the superintendent speaking with reporters there at the office in newtown the district hats been on lockdown as a preventative measure. this is important now, the superintendent's secretary says that reports of a shooting are not co confirmed. we'll work through this together and gather information as we can. it just crossed the wires about seven minutes ago. be patient with us as we work through it. you mentioned a number of people escorted out of the building, perhaps that is the case. this bit of information from the superintendent's office -- alisyn: is comforting, that's comforting if it's not confirmed, where we're getting our information it's just a very tiny blurb from a website there that says that police are reporting a number of injured parties. let's hope that in the confusion of these early reports that that is not accurate, but, again, it's impossible to
